DESCRIPTION
Lima is Peru’s capital city. It is located on the central coast of the country, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, making up an extensive and populous urban area known as Metropolitan Lima, spreading into the valleys of the rivers Chillón, Rimac and Lurín. The city now has nearly 8.5 million inhabitants, making up 30% of Peru’s population and making it the country’s most populous city and the fifth largest in Latin America.
Lima lies on Peru’s desert coast, at the foot of the country’s central Andes. Although it was initially founded in the valley of the river Rimac, it now spreads over extensive desert zones and even over other valleys, giving it an irregular topography.
